I still call myself “Dissident Right”. I keep the label for a variety of reasons, but mostly because it accurately describes me. I am, obviously, to the right of most, and I am certainly against the current regime, (elephant or donkey). With that being said, this essay is not to discuss my opposition to the regime, but more so my loyalty to it.
There are many substantial differences between left and right-wing dissidents, but the most important is that those of us on the right would prefer to see the current regime succeed and become better rather than burn it all down. Of course, I don’t think that this will happen, but it would be better for the country and its people if the regime simply adopted the correct policies rather than continue down its current trajectory. Left wing dissidents do not share this sentiment.
The main reason for this is that left-wing dissidents are loyal to their ideology first and their country second, or last. For them, internationalism is first. This prevents them from looking after their own country or people. Furthermore, these people follow ideologies which teach them to hate their own country and people. There is no negotiation possible with them, they can never be allowed access to the levers of power. Left-wing dissidents serve as nothing but a destructive force.
For those like myself, on the other hand, our nations and people come first, with international or ideological concepts second. This is the origin of the phrase “His majesty’s most loyal opposition”, opposing a set of value judgements and policies without opposing the state for the sake of opposition itself.
However, there is a caveat to this. My loyalties are first and foremost to the nation and her people, and to the state second, (at least in this fallen world in which no state is itself worthy of unconditional loyalty). I will always support the regime when its interests align with this, and I will always oppose it when they do not. And the day in which the regime proves disloyalty to the nation or her people….
