Great thoughts! I agree that it is absolutely essential that the US does not engage in a war of attrition in its current state. What makes you think that we will be in another war before we're able to fix our DIB? The immenence of a war, or just the state of industry?

The big reason why I think a new war is coming soon is because starting one sooner rather than later is the smart decision for pretty much all of our adversaries, (except Iran but they're only really an adversary because of a different desert tribe). NATO planners are expecting it in the mid 2030's, I don't see why the other side would sit and wait for our timeline.

As far as fixing our industrial base goes, I don't see how this can really be done without a massive subsidy system, and I'm not sure that our leaders are even seriously considering solutions. As you said elsewhere, the Pentagon is still buying like it's 1995.

So TLDR, both =)

I've also seen the theories/NATO experts re the next war happening soon. I hope they're wrong, but we need to plan like they're right. I hate to be alarmist, but honestly tha's the mindset we need if we hope to fix anything in time.
